Pennsylvania Avenue from Buchanan Street to University Avenue will be closed on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, for construction of an asphalt overlay. The street will be open to all traffic on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. A detour route will be posted using Buchanan Street to E 9th Street to University Avenue. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. If there are questions, contact the City Project Engineer, Roger Joanning at 283-4076.
Prospect Road from Hickman Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway is closed for sewer work and is scheduled to reopen Monday, November 24, 2008. Local access will be maintained from Martin Luther King, Jr., Parkway. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. Easton Boulevard from East 38th Street to East 33rd Street will be closed on Monday, November 17, 2008, at approximately 8:00 A.M., open only to local traffic, for street repairs. A detour route will be posted for through traffic to follow. The street should be reopened to all traffic in approximately 48 hours. In case of inclement weather, the work will be done on the following day or when weather permits. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. LANE REDUCTIONS: East University Avenue from East 34th Street to East 38th Street will experience lane reductions beginning Thursday November 13, 2008 for approximately 4 weeks. This is necessary for Des Moines Public Works to make storm sewer intake repairs. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. UPDATE: Thomas Beck Road from the SW 9th Street overpass west to approximately Druid Hill Drive will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at approximately 7:00 a.m. for asphalt overlay. This section of roadway should be reopened to local traffic only by 7:00 p.m.
Thomas Beck Road / Bell Avenue from SW 9th Street to Fleur Drive will remain closed until approximately November 15, 2008. The street will only be open to local traffic. No thru traffic will be permitted. A detour will remain directing motorists to either West M.L. King Jr. Parkway or to Park Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the work will be done on the following day or when weather permits. REVISED: Hull Avenue from York Street to East 14th Street will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 9:00 am for approximately two months. This closure is part of the E. 14th Street widening project and is necessary for storm sewer work, weather permitting. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. If there are questions, contact the Iowa DOT at 261-9500.
High Street from 10th Street to 12th Street will be closed beginning at 9:00 am Wednesday, August 6, 2008. The closure is expected to last approximately 5 months. This closure is necessary as part of the High Street Re-alignment project. Motorists may use 15th Street to Locust Avenue as an alternate route, and are encouraged to use caution when driving in this area and to obey all construction zone signs. The northbound lanes of the old Fleur Drive Bridge over the Raccoon River will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 12, 2008. This closure is part of the bridge rehabilitation project that will be ongoing until later this fall. A detour will be posted using M. L. King Jr. Parkway east to SW 16th Street. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.
