Lane Reduction: SE 14th Street at its intersection with Indianola Avenue will be reduced to two lanes for northbound through traffic and one lane for northbound left-turning traffic. The lane reduction will begin at 9:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010, and construction is anticipated to last approximately three weeks. This closure is necessary for reconstruction of the median. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area and obey all construction zone signing. If there are questions, contact the project engineer, Roger Joanning, at 283-4076.
Saylor Road at Guthrie Avenue will be closed beginning Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 8:30 a.m., in order to allow the contractor to construct an earthen levee across the roadway. This levee protects the Birdland neighborhood from the Des Moines River, and is a planned levee closure based on the forecasted river levels. A detour is signed using E 9th Street. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. Center Street from 3rd Street to 2nd Avenue will be closed beginning Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 7:00 a.m. until Friday, March 26, 2010, at 2:30 a.m. This closure is necessary for vehicle placement and staging for the Black Eyed Peas Concert at the Iowa Events Center. SW 11th Street from Dart Way to West Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway will be closed beginning Monday, November 23, 2009. As part of this construction, Tuttle Avenue between SW 9th and SW 11th will also be closed. The closure will be in effect until next summer, and is part of the city’s SW 11th Street paving project. 11th Street from Grand Avenue to High Street will be closed beginning on Thursday, October 8, 2009, for approximately one year, for work in conjunction with the construction of the Wellmark facility. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing. SE 3rd Street between Raccoon Street and Allen Street will be closed beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 for work in conjunction with the S.E. Connector project. The street will be permanently closed as part of the construction project. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in this area, and should obey all construction zone signing.
