Tax Abatement Form - Tax Abatement FAQ
Have you added an addition, garage, porch or deck? Perhaps you have replaced the roof, added new siding, or remodeled the interior of your home?
OR
Have you built a new home, moved a modular home on to your property or moved a home onto an existing lot?
AND
You have obtained a building permit for the improvements. (Some work does not require at permit, be sure to check to see if one is required.)
THEN
You may be eligible for tax abatement on the improvements made to your property. Tax abatement is awarded if you increased the value of your property at least 5%. (The final determination about the increase in value is made by the Polk County Assessor.)
There are five tax abatement schedules based on the dollar value and the location of the property. The abatement you receive could be for 5 or 10 years, depending on what you have done and where you live.
Applications must be filed by the 1st working day in February 2010 for projects completed by December 31, 2009.
By state law, if you do not file an application by February and your project was completed on December 31, 2009, you may lose a year or more of tax abatement.
