The Commission is an impartial Investigative Agency, which seeks to determine through investigation, if a person was treated unfairly in violation of the *Des Moines City Code we enforce.

    We attempt to foster justice and equality for all people who live or visit Des Moines by creating an atmosphere of opportunity regardless of:

    Age, Race, Color, Creed, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Ancestry, National Origin, Physical and Mental Disability or Family Status

  • Responsibility

    We collaborate with Federal, State, and local organizations to:

    • Increase awareness and enforce the laws regarding discrimination
    • Initiate, receive, hear and investigate complaints of discrimination
    • Provide Human Rights education/training to business and community groups
